E7 Facilitating with Flair in Aboriginal Communities
Level:All Levels
Facilitating within First Nation communities requires having sensitivity to others, respecting their way of doing things and listening to them; it requires balancing contemporary views with today’s challenges while connecting with traditional knowledge and cultural values. Working from a case study of a facilitator’s experience in working with First Nation communities, the group will experience and co-create some effective methods and tools that can help to change the way a community values and engages its citizens.

| Presenters:
Lucille Michaud is an aboriginal First Nation woman who entered the field of facilitation in 1999 with the Institute of Cultural Affairs, completing the Advanced Facilitator Program and becoming certified as a ToP™ Facilitator in 2007 .She successfully achieved her designation as an IAF Certified Professional Facilitator in August 2008. . Lucille has spent over 20 years working within an aboriginal context with a primary interest in governance, community building and empowerment. Her facilitation experience is almost exclusive to First Nation communities and aboriginal organizations in Northwestern Ontario. She finds the facilitative approach works best to engage aboriginal communities in dialogues that are long overdue. This passion and commitment to improving the lives of First Nation communities has also pulled her into the role of a trainer in facilitation skills with ICA-Associates. In many of her facilitation engagements she involves and mentors community individuals who are interested in the role of a facilitator, with a particular interest in aboriginal youth.
